5 Top Tips for Buying from a secondhand style English expert, author of the Paloma In Disguise blog

We’ve brought you an interesting foreign resource on how to make wardrobes environmentally friendly, how you can shape your worldviews in dressing.

Hannah Elliman, better known as Paloma in Disguise fashion blogger, shared her tips on sustainable, used fashion with OxFam in the UK.
At a young age, Paloma was embroiled in the mystical and exciting turmoil of the world of second-hand clothes and treasure hunting. In addition to uniqueness, rare clothing and accessories, Paloma also emphasizes an environmentally conscious mindset, with fast fashion chains selling 38 million items a week in the UK alone, while at the same time landing 11 million items a week in the trash. By buying used clothes, you can prevent the insane pace of waste.
 1. Visit vintage stores often!
One of the miserable implications of used clothing stores is that you never know when you’ll come across a piece of clothing that’s perfect in size, style, material (and even countless aspects) for you. Therefore, under the law of large numbers, the more times you visit a vintage store, the more likely you are to find the treasure you need.
 2. Don't forget about the accessories! We often come to vintage and used clothing stores just to buy a piece of clothing, although we can also get a number of wonderful accessories there. We can find everything from special belts, bags to hats and caps, and in some stores you can even find jewelry!
 3. Try DIY techniques! During your visits, you will not necessarily come across pieces that you are just looking for, but that should not take away from you, as you can conjure quite surprising and unique things from similar pieces with a little creativity and skill! Cut, batik, decorate, the border of the starry sky!
4. Be open! Try to break out of your comfort zone and research, give chances to garments and accessories that may not have been part of your repertoire so far.
 5. Take a friend with you! This point is closely related to the fourth. More eyes, more seeing can help you determine which garment is right for you, and you can spot ones that you might not try on your own.
